This week I decided to use my Red Heart Super Solids yarn in dark orchid, and the pattern Spring Beret. The pattern was free on Ravelry. I started the hat on Sunday, and I think I unraveled the hat twice. The first time I casted on too few stitches. The second time I accidentally repeated the same row twice, and the lace was all wrong. Now the hat is complete. 🙂
I have completed the Finding Nemo Hat, fins and all! The hat was supposed to be for Peanut, but he doesn’t let me put it on his head. However, he loves it when I wear it, so I think I will keep it for myself. There is a lot of orange, white, and black yarn left over. I am planning to make more hats with the yarn, perhaps a Halloween theme hat or trick-or-treat bag for Peanut.
Week Three of my Hat a Week Project is still undecided. I know that I will use purple yarn, but I have no idea what kind of hat I want to make. I can either make a bulky beret, a lacy beret, or a beanie. I hate to wear beanies, though, because they make my hair so frizzy in the winter. I think I will go with something that fits loosely.
I am almost done knitting the Finding Nemo hat. On Saturday I went to a knit meetup and I completely lost count of what I was doing! Sunday morning I had to unravel and backtrack about 2 inches when I realized that my center white stripe was way too wide. After that the hat knitted up very quickly. I changed the tail to look more like a clown fish’s tail, and then I added the fin on top of the head. The eyes are also on, and all I need are the two fins for the sides. It wouldn’t make sense to put fins on the bottom, so I won’t be including any. Here are some pictures. Enjoy! 🙂
I am working on next week’s hat early. I am using the Fish (Dead or Alive) pattern from knitty.com. I have done a lot of math calculations and internet research on the stripes of clown fish. So far I have four pages of notes, and I have completed about 5 inches or so. After the first stripe pattern I was amazed by how awesome the pattern is. No wonder more than 860 of these hats have been made. And that is just the amount of projects that were posted on Ravelry since the pattern came out in the Fall 2008 issue of Knitty. I am sure a lot of people who aren’t on Ravelry have also made it. Here are pics of what I have so far. It rained yesterday so the daylight was horrible for picture taking, sorry.
I also have some new socks on the needles. Yay! I am using Bernat Satin Sport on size US 3 needles. So far I have worked a few rows of the cuff on the first sock. I really like the pattern, it is a lacy pattern I found online. I have yet to post it on ravelry so I don’t know where I got it from exactly. I will post the website once I post the pictures.
Finally, I have decided to make a chunky tam from the Knit.1 Fall Winter 2008 issue. Yes, it’s the issue with the missing pages, but luckily this pattern is complete. I will use Red Heart Super Solids in Dark Orchid for this hat. I need to add purple to my wardrobe. I noticed that I only have one purple shirt, and it’s too big for me to wear (was a Christmas gift from someone who must think I am huge). This hat will have to wait til I finish Peanut’s hat.
I think that’s it for today, but if not I will post more tomorrow. OH! I just remembered that I am going to a Knit Night Potluck tomorrow! I am super excited about that. I am going to make a pasta salad and maybe take cookies. I also have to remember to take a folding chair. Since it rained all day yesterday and today I think the chair might have gotten wet. Hopefully it will be dry enough to take. And I hope it isn’t stinky. Nobody wants to sit in a chair that smells like wet towel. EEEWWW!!!
Yesterday my mom and Lloyd came down to visit and it was very fun. They came to eat lunch and then came later for a visit. I got to give them Eric’s hat, which fit Lloyd so it should fit his brother. After Lloyd went back home, me and my mom hit the stores for a shopping spree. We went to Borders, which was a big disappointment. THe only book that I was interested in was Weekend Knitting, but it was too expensive for my budget. We decided to go to Half Price instead. I had a great time there, and I bought a few things. The two books Quick Knits Cool Projects by House of Birches (I paid only $8 and saw the same book at JoAnn’s for more than $20), and Blankets, Hats and Booties by Kristin Spurkland. I also bought the winter issues of KnitSimple and Knit.1. The Knit.1 magazine made me a little upset, because someone tore out 8 pages! I am missing 5 or 6 projects from the project list.
I really enjoyed making Eric’s hat, but I am back to knitting the Transformers squares. I casted on my third Decepticon square today. I have also decided that I would like to start a new project, Hat a Week. I will knit a different hat each week. It only took me one day to make Eric’s hat, and that hat was actually more complicated than most. The first hat I want to make for my new project is the fish hat from the Knitty website. I bought the yarn I needed for this hat today. I will make a clown fish, sort of like Marlin. I won’t make Nemo since it would have a heavy side (the larger fin). I also bought some purple yarn to make a hat or something. I really just wanted purple yarn. I noticed that I have never purchased yarn in orange or purple. Now I have both.
Oh, my mom gave me her cabled newsboy cap so that I could take pics. I made it around September or October. I can’t really remember since it only took a day or two to make.
I will post pics of the Marlin Fish Hat as soon as I start working on it.
I finished Eric’s Cabled Newsboy Cap in only one day! I love the way it came out, but now the fun is over. I have to go back to the Transformers washcloth. I just love making hats. I think it is the instant gratification that gets me. I think I am going to make a beret for myself next week. I figured a hat once a week would be pretty cool to do. That way, when there are birthdays and holidays I will be stocked up with gifts. I’ll just have to ask them to pick a color or style and tada there’s a gift. I think that is an awesome idea. I am also going to make myself some house socks because my socks are getting dirty and I hate to wear slippers. They make my feet feel too hot. I have a nice pattern for some house socks in Sarah Dallas Knitting. Its a book with really beautiful patterns, and I have not made a pattern from that book yet. I think I will also make the beret in the book, too.
Here are some pics of my hat from cast on to end result. I had fun making this yesterday.

Half Way Thru
On Wednesday I went to the library and picked up several books for Peanut and knitting books for myself. I also got a book of short stories titled Home Schooling. The first story in the book was kinda creepy and sad, so I am not sure if I want to read ahead soon. I might wait a few days to read the next story. There are 8 stories in the book, and I have 7 left to read. The bad thing about my trip to the library is that I picked up a book that I own already! I meant to get Stitch n Bitch The Knitter’s Handbook, but instead I got Stitch n Bitch Nation. I own Nation, so what am I supposed to do with this other one? I did get to finally check out Nicky Epstein’s Signature Scarves. So far I am loving about 5 of the scarves in the book. Many of the scarves are pretty, but I know I would never wear them. Others are very artsy but not practical. My favorite part of the book has to be the last section on how to wear a scarf. I like the different step by step pictures, and the different styles. The other books I picked up were The New Crochet and How to Knit by Debbie Bliss. I got these because I always see them on the shelf at the library and never bring them home. To be honest, I will probably only use the Signature Scarves book.
Project Update: I am only working on one thing only. My brother’s Transformers blanket. I have completed 3 squares, and am halfway through with the 4th. I am trying my best to focus on the blanket, but it’s just so hard. The whole time I am working on the square I am thinking about what other projects I could be making with my stash yarn. It’s so tempting to put down my needles, run to my closet, and grab another ball of yarn. I am even thinking about ripping a crocheted scarf that I made last year and using that yarn with a ball of the same yarn to make something even better. Well, I will have to wait on that. I also want to make entrelac pillow covers for the pillows on my sofa. It’s a project in the Debbie Bliss book. I will have to add it to my queue on Ravelry.
