Showing the little guys love

So I am really showing the little men in my life some love right now.   I finished my new nephew’s blanket a few days ago.  He isn’t due til the end of July, so technically I will be giving the blanket to my SIL.  I used a basic granny square pattern and changed the colors every once in a while.  I wanted to use Red Heart Soft Yarn, since I already had a ball of it in Avocado.  Since it was a pretty unique color I had, I wanted the other colors to be unique, too, so I got teal and grape.  I think of it as a modern baby blanket, since it isn’t made with lighter colors, like baby blue and mint green.  I had a hard time taking a good pic, since the yarn tends to shine when I use the flash on the camera.  I hope the pics are decent.

This is the yarn I had left over from the three original balls.  I am going to use them in a fair isle hat I plan to make for myself.  I am not going to make it until I finish my garter yoke cardigan.  I want to use the leftover yarn from that project as a base color for the fair isle hat.

My mom gave me two balls of Scarlet Red Caron Natura Yarn, and I had no idea what to do with it.  It is a little bright for a scarf and hat set, atleast for my skin tone.  I imagine that it will make my skin look orange.

So I decided to crochet a toy for Peanut, a big red ball.  He loved it, expecially since he didn’t see me make it.  My husband has requested that I make a bunch of these balls in different colors.  He has also asked that I make a soccer ball.  I have a lot of black and white yarn, but I don’t think I have a lot of patience to make the kind of soccer ball he wants.

I have also started making some cable socks from my Sarah Dallas Knitting book, but I have not taken any pics of them yet.  Today is laundry day, so I probably won’t be able to work on them today.  I might get some pictures up by the end of the week.

Nothing new, sorry

I have been racking my brain all day trying to decide what to knit.  I am crocheting my SIL’s baby blanket. but that isn’t too exciting.  It is also getting very close to being finished.  I know that I should start the back of my mom’s sleeveless shell, and I should also make more Transformers squares for the afghan, but I don’t really want to.  The Transformers squares are interesting, but not tempting.  The sleeveless shell is all stockinette, which is so boring.  I really want to start a new pair of socks, but I am resisting the temptation.  I am also resisting any temptation to start new projects.  Hmm.. I hate being indecisive.  I’ll post later about what I decide to do.  🙂

Some dishcloths and other things

My mom came to visit this past Wednesday and I got to hang out with her and my brother.  It was pretty fun.  We went to Luby’s for lunch and then stopped at the Yarn Barn for some yarn shopping.  He wanted some washcloths for computer dusting so I agreed to make them for him.  I bought a green yarn.  I think the camera didn’t do any justice to the color.  I like to think of it as a Christmas green, but it looks a lot lighter in the pictures.

Here is how small the ball was, which made me unsure of whether I was going to be able to finish both the cloths.  I finished both cloths on Friday.  I think all the ribbing in the Marlene socks has helped me knit faster.  I can transition between knits and purls a lot easier now, and having a row counter was helpful.  I didn’t have to put my knitting down after each row to write down the rows I complete.  Here are some pics of the yarn, the Autobot dishcloth, and the Transformers dishcloth.  If you didn’t know already, these are the two symbols for the good guys and the bad guys from The Transformers.

As payment for knitting the dishcloths my brother let me choose a yarn for myself.  I picked a Hand Maiden Casbah sock yarn in Cedar.  I think I am going to make myself some Monkey socks, but first I have to finish my Marlene socks.  The Marlene socks are almost done.  Today, I turned the heel on the second sock.  Tomorrow I will finish the gusset and hopefully the majority of the foot.

This week I also finished up a new cardigan.  I used the Pinguino Super Bulky to make the Fairly Easy Fair Isle Cardigan from Stitch ‘n Bitch Nation by Debbie Stoller.  I omitted the fair isle part, but it still looks very nice.  I will post pictures of the finished product just as soon as I put some buttons on it.

I also started another big project on Thursday.  My SIL is having a little boy next month, so I am crocheting a big granny square afghan for her.  I finished the center square, and now I have to go to Joann’s to get more yarn.  I am using the Red Heart Soft Yarn, and hopefully I will be able to find a nice match to this avocado color.

That’s it for now.  I will try to finish a few things before the end of next week, including my Marlene socks, the baby blanket, and lacy scarf (that I have not even started yet, but hope to start soon).

Meet Baby the Penguin!

It has been so long since I picked up a hook!  I think that the last time I crocheted something was when I made a Winnie the Pooh dishcloth.  I had a lot of yarn left over from the Nemo hat, and I wanted to make something for Peanut, so I made a penguin.  The penguin pattern is from the Lion Brand website, and it’s very easy.  Essentially it is a bunch of circles and one ball.  As I was making it Peanut was amazed that it was becoming a penguin.  I began the penguin yesterday night, and finished it this morning.  Here are some pics.

We have finally gotten some rain here, and I thought it would be fun to play with my camera effects and take pictures of the storm clouds coming in on Friday.  I think it has rained on and off each day since then.  😀

Frogging Everything

So lately I just have not been happy with any patterns out there.  I have attepmted to knit three or four tanks this last week and I absolutely hated them all.  I would knit about half of it and realize that I didn’t like the pattern.  I even designed my own pattern, which was very pretty, but the yarn I was using wasn’t right for the design.  I wrote down the pattern and unraveled the tank.  I think I am just going to work on the afghan for now.  Atleast I know what it is going to look like in the end.  Maybe I will just do some hats or something.  I can start making hat and scarve sets now and just save them for the winter.  I know that it’s far away, but what else am I supposed to knit?  It’s going to get too hot here to wear anything knitted, even if it’s made of cotton.

Oh, I finished the decepticon square.  I borrowed a free chart on ravelry and adjusted it to the size I wanted.  Here are the two squares next to each other.

Also, I have been growing some beans in a bottle of water for peanut.  The beans sprouted roots after a day and a half.   Today, Anthony planted the beans outside for me.  I hope they grow quickly.  The weatherman was expecting a frost last night so I waited til today to plant them.  I had asked Anthony to plant them as a joke, but then he actually did it.  I love him.  🙂  I will take pics of the beans if they grow.  If not, I will be sad.

Finished the Giant Granny Square Afghan

It took me a week, and now I am finished with the granny square blanket I made using all of my Red Heart scrap yarn.

I love the way it came out, and so does my family. I completed all the squares yesterday, and I sewed the pieces together both yesterday and today. The finishing touch was adding a black border all the way around, so that it will have a framed look. I didn’t make it too big, since I ran out of so much of the yarn.
My sister in law is going to have a boy in July, and I think I will make a similar blanket for him in April or May I have to buy the yarn first.

Next, I will devote myself to my scarf front cardi, which I completely forgot about this week. After I finish that, I will start swatching for my mother’s Sleeveless Tank.

2009 Update

Okay so far in 2009 I have made a lot.  Mostly gifts, though.  First, my favorite, Peanut’s Spidey Afghan.  I got the pattern off ravelry, and I used the recommended yarn and changed my colored rounds a bit.

Next, my yarn bee shawl for my mom.  I made up the pattern.  Very easy.

Oh, the socks I made for myself and then gave to my mom.  The mistakes in the yarn frustrated me, and I can’t bear to keep these.  Thank You sucky sock yarn, you have made me detest sock knitting!

Next my Nubby Cardigan from Knitscene Fall 2008.  This one took a while to make since I moved homes a lot when I was making it.

My Sleeveless Shell from Verena Summer 2008.  I started making this as soon as I got the magazine, but put it aside to knit winterwear.  I just did the finishing and blocking about a week ago.  This is a pic before it was actually blocked. The day I wear it, I will definitely take a picture.  My mom was such a fan of it that she asked me to make her one, too.  I think I will have hers done by mother’s day.  Maybe.  First I want to finish my giant granny square blanket.

Here are some fun toys I crocheted up for Peanut.  Easter eggs, which he didn’t really like, and doughnuts, which he loved.  I made the doughnuts using the free doughnut pattern on lionbrand.com

I made this tote out of a lot of scrap yarn  I hated it at first, but now I love this bag.  I love it so much that I am using it as my project bag.

Finally, my hand/wrist warmers from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.  I thought I would get use out of them, but I made them when it started getting warmer outside.  I don’t think there has been one cold night since I have made them.  It’s okay, I will use them in the fall.

Okay, I think that is it.  Wow, I sure have a lot of leftover yarn… Hopefully my giant granny square afghan will fix this problem.  After all, my hubby can’t use the excuse that I have too much yarn, if there isn’t any yarn left.
