Quick Update

This last month has been very busy for me, so I have not gotten a chance to knit much.  I have been working on some new Marlene socks and a new lacy chevron scarf for myself.  I am using Jitterbug in Parrot Blue for the Marlene socks, which was supposed to be for some Monkey socks, but that didn’t work out too well.  After about 4 inches of knitting the Monkey socks I realized that I hated the way the colors were pooling.  I figured that my first Marlene socks came out so great, that I would love another pair.  I will try to post pics of my two projects soon. 🙂

Cabled Socks and Baby Mittens

Finally have Internet connection again. 🙂  I have been knitting my brother’s blanket so much lately that I decided to take a break and return to some old projects that I had on hold.  I finished my Cable Socks from Sarah Dallas Knitting on August 4th.  Each sock only takes about four days to complete, but I put them on hold for about a month to get other knitting done.  The socks have cables all over, and the purl stitches between the cables make the socks very stretchy.

At the end of July I finally learned the steps to two socks on two circular needles.  I didn’t really have plans to knit socks at the time, so instead I knit some baby mittens for my newest nephew.  I don’t plan on giving them to my sister-in-law, because she seemed very unappreciative when I sent her a picture of them.  I am going to keep them until I find someone to give them to.

Other than the socks and mittens, I have not finished any new projects.  I started two scarves this month, but I have not taken any pictures of them yet.  I will post about them as soon as I finish the first of the two scarves.

Marlene Socks are Complete

Today I finished my Marlene socks, and it was very on-the-edge-of-my-seat knitting.  I was so scared that I would run out of yarn, because the pattern called for about 50 yards more than I had.  I omitted two repeats on both socks, and it worked!  I ended up having about 4 feet of yarn left over.  It was a very close call.  I love the result.  I used Kertzer On Your Toes Bamboo, which is very splitty, very soft, and fuzzes a little as you knit it.  The color showed the stitch definition very well.  I am considering using the pattern Marlene, by Cookie A. again, but next time with a blue yarn.  Here are some pictures.  Enjoy.

Need to get things finished…

I really need to get some things finished.  I feel like I have been working on some stuff forever!  I think I started my mom’s sleeveless shell in March, and I am barely done with the front section.  I finished it up to where the sleeves begin, and I put the stitches on holders to work on later.  I tried to take a picture of it, but the color is horrible to take pictures of.  sleeveless shell 2 front section

I have also gotten pretty far on my Lacy Shawl from the Knit.1 Spring/Summer 2008 magazine.  The pattern calls for a size 5 needle.  I started with a size 6 needle, but the pattern was too bunched up.  After much trial and error I settled on size 10 needles!  It is working up pretty fast, and the pattern is pretty easy to remember.

I also made a Cherie Amour, but I hated it and ripped it out.  here is a pic I took just before I decided it was a horrible pattern.

Sorry, I forgot to rotate the picture.

Finally I have pics of my Marlene socks!  I have not made much of them, but they look beautiful already.

I am going to try very hard to have one of these projects (not the Cherie Amour, of course) finished by the end of next week.

Lots of new projects this week!

This week I started my Marlene socks with my bamboo yarn, and I also started my Cherie Amour sweater from Knitty.  The Marlene socks were extremely frustrating!  For some reason my family wanted all my attention the day I casted on, and I had to unravel my sock 3 times!  The first time 2nd time I unraveled was the worst because I had already knitted 2 inches of the sock, and 2 inches on size 2 needles are a lot of rows!  Saturday morning I casted on for the Cherie Amour sweater, and I am still unsure about the yarn for that sweater.  I think I will just keep knitting it until I see a little bit more of the pattern knit up.  Right now it just looks like a bunch of holes!  I am also going to need to pick a hat for this coming week.  I am thinking of just making a plain black beanie, since most of the hats I have made are women’s hats.  I think a plain beanie will be quick.  I will begin my hat on Thursday or Friday.

Rainy Day Goodies!

Wow, it has finally rained here!  It really caught us by surprise yesterday at four-thirty-ish.  I was on my way to Yarnivore for knit night when I felt some sprinkles on my cheek.  By the time I got to the highway the rain was pounding on the roof of my truck!  Luckily the rain had slowed down near the store, so I didn’t get too wet.  Knit Night was fun, and productive since I got to finish all five of the decepticon squares last night.  Today it was raining when I woke up, so I decided to stay in and knit the day away.  I finished my ankle socks, and at about three I found out that some yarn had came in for me from Kate.  It was an awesome package of four 7 oz. balls of chunky yarn.  I knitted up a gauge swatch and realized that it will make a thick garment.  I think it will make something very nice, since the colorway is really nice.

Here are the socks I made.  I used the Pom Pom Peds pattern from the Purl Bee website, and the yarn was a trekking yarn I got from a thrift store last summer.  I took pictures with different backgrounds to show how the different colors stand out.

Here is what was left of the yarn after I finished the socks.  Not much for anything.

Here is the yarn I got in the mail today.  As soon as I opened the box I ran for my camera.

New Projects in honor of Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day was awesome!  I got some funds from my mom and my hubby, and I went shopping, of course.  First I went to Yarnivore, by myself (gasp!), and I found some sock yarn for my Monkeys, it is called On Your Toes Bamboo.  The yarn color is seashell multi which is a mixture of pink, blue, and cream.  I think they are going to look awesome, and I can’t wait to cast on!  I also got some Feza Baby Yarn in pink.  I got two balls, which is enough to make a vest/tank so I am going to make the Sexy Vesty by Canary Knits.  Also, I have chosen a pattern for my Hat a Week Project.  It will be the Trinity Stitch Hat .  I will use that dreaded Bernat Satin Sport yarn in the wine colorway.  I have decided that this yarn will just have to go on and become hats.  I am seriously tired of ripping it out and making it into yarn balls again and again!  Well, I will take pics of the gifts I got later and post them.  Did I mention I got some sock needles and a row counter?  I also got Peanut several books from Half Price Books.

I have also started sewing some things!  I started sewing a messenger bag that I was making in 2005.  I don’t remember why I stopped making the bag, but I have decided to finish it.  On Sunday night I got most of the body finished up, but then I had to stop sewing since Anthony was falling asleep.  I have plenty of yarn left over, so I will use it to make a needle case holder for all my straight needles, double pointed needles, and crochet hooks.  I am still contemplating whether I will make three separate cases or one big case.  It will all depend on how much fabric I have to work with.  I started to take measurements, but Peanut decided that he wanted to use my measuring tape to play with, so I had to admit defeat.  I will try to finish the bag this afternoon, and will hopefully get the needle cases started.
