I have not worked on anything else but my brother’s Transformers blanket. So far, I have managed to finish 3 of ten balls of yarn. Two balls are still brand new, and the rest have been used for one square each. I can get three squares from each ball, so by the time I finish the ten balls of yarn I should have 30 squares.
I will try to get a picture of what all the squares look like together, but I have to wait til the sun comes out to take the pictures. I have also started knitting my garter stitch cardigan, but it isn’t much to photograph seeing that I have only completed the first four rows.
I am considering unraveling my Relm hat, since it was very big, and I don’t see myself really wearing it. I plan on knitting up a small beanie and using the rest of the yarn I have to make a scarf. I haven’t decided on a pattern for the scarf. It will either be a ribbed scarf, or a lacy scarf. I won’t be starting anything new until I finish my brother’s blanket.
Wow, it has finally rained here! It really caught us by surprise yesterday at four-thirty-ish. I was on my way to Yarnivore for knit night when I felt some sprinkles on my cheek. By the time I got to the highway the rain was pounding on the roof of my truck! Luckily the rain had slowed down near the store, so I didn’t get too wet. Knit Night was fun, and productive since I got to finish all five of the decepticon squares last night. Today it was raining when I woke up, so I decided to stay in and knit the day away. I finished my ankle socks, and at about three I found out that some yarn had came in for me from Kate. It was an awesome package of four 7 oz. balls of chunky yarn. I knitted up a gauge swatch and realized that it will make a thick garment. I think it will make something very nice, since the colorway is really nice.
Here are the socks I made. I used the Pom Pom Peds pattern from the Purl Bee website, and the yarn was a trekking yarn I got from a thrift store last summer. I took pictures with different backgrounds to show how the different colors stand out.
Beige carpet makes the blue pop.
Peanut’s Alphabet carpet makes the black pop.
The wood linoleum in my kitchen makes the orange pop.
Here is what was left of the yarn after I finished the socks. Not much for anything.
Here is the yarn I got in the mail today. As soon as I opened the box I ran for my camera.
Here’s a nice close up of the yarn.
Knitted a gauge swatch with size US 10 needles, 17 sts and 19 rows.
This is a blurry picture, but it shows the color best, without the flash.
This is what it looks like with the flash on the camera on. Not as nice.
It feels like it’s been forever since I last finished a project! I have been casting on way too many projects lately, and I think at this rate I will never get anything finished. Because I really enjoy the feeling from finishing a project, I have made a new rule/guideline for myself. I will pick one project to work on, and will not work on any other project until that one project is finished. Technically I am doing this in regards to my sewing, since I will not start cutting the fabric for my needle holders until I am finished with my messenger bag (which may not be for a while since I have not touched it since Sunday).
I followed my new rule yesterday by casting on hat five of my Hat a Week Project, and I did not work on any other project until I finished the hat this afternoon. The hat is the Trinity Stitch Hat in Bernat Satin Sport yarn in the color wine. It looks very nice, but I hated working with two yarns at the same time, especially with all the bobbles. The top of the hat looks a bit wonky since the magic loop method didn’t work very well to close the hat, I ended up having to switch to dpns. I also found two areas where I apparently dropped one of the yarns, but this was pretty easy to fix and conceal because of all the bobbles. The hat is very slouchy, and Anthony called my Rasta style hat. I think it looks awesome, and it is so soft and drapy. I wish I had made the Spring Beret with a softer yarn. I imagine that it would have looked much better in either Caron Simply Soft or Red Heart Soft Yarn. Well, here are a few pics of the hat. I didn’t take pictures of the hat on the needles, since I mostly worked on it at night and early morning when the sun could not provide very good lighting. I have noticed that the pictures I take at night do not do my yarns justice.
After I made the hat I picked up a blue Autobot square I have not worked on for a while, and I finished that pretty quickly. I was pretty excited to work on it since I got to use my new row counter (I love my row counter!). I will try to finish the five Decepticon squares I am working on either tonight or tomorrow. After I am done with those I will switch to my socks, which I have almost finished. Once the socks are finished, the only thing I will have left on the needles is my mom’s sleeveless shell. I will probably stick with the shell for about a week or two and try to get it finished by this time next month when she comes to visit.
On Wednesday I went to the library and picked up several books for Peanut and knitting books for myself. I also got a book of short stories titled Home Schooling. The first story in the book was kinda creepy and sad, so I am not sure if I want to read ahead soon. I might wait a few days to read the next story. There are 8 stories in the book, and I have 7 left to read. The bad thing about my trip to the library is that I picked up a book that I own already! I meant to get Stitch n Bitch The Knitter’s Handbook, but instead I got Stitch n Bitch Nation. I own Nation, so what am I supposed to do with this other one? I did get to finally check out Nicky Epstein’s Signature Scarves. So far I am loving about 5 of the scarves in the book. Many of the scarves are pretty, but I know I would never wear them. Others are very artsy but not practical. My favorite part of the book has to be the last section on how to wear a scarf. I like the different step by step pictures, and the different styles. The other books I picked up were The New Crochet and How to Knit by Debbie Bliss. I got these because I always see them on the shelf at the library and never bring them home. To be honest, I will probably only use the Signature Scarves book.
Project Update: I am only working on one thing only. My brother’s Transformers blanket. I have completed 3 squares, and am halfway through with the 4th. I am trying my best to focus on the blanket, but it’s just so hard. The whole time I am working on the square I am thinking about what other projects I could be making with my stash yarn. It’s so tempting to put down my needles, run to my closet, and grab another ball of yarn. I am even thinking about ripping a crocheted scarf that I made last year and using that yarn with a ball of the same yarn to make something even better. Well, I will have to wait on that. I also want to make entrelac pillow covers for the pillows on my sofa. It’s a project in the Debbie Bliss book. I will have to add it to my queue on Ravelry.
